After being canceled for two years because of the pandemic, the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino de Cebu announced the resumption of all activities related to the Feast of the Santo Niño in January.
In partnership with the local government, the basilica said devotees will once again be able to witness and take part in the festive Sinulog Festival in honor of Senor Santo Nino after a thorough study and meeting with health experts on the safety of the expected large number of attendees.
Activities to be held in celebration of the 458th Feast of the Child Jesus include the Penitential Walk with Jesus to open the celebration on Jan. 5 at 4 a.m.; novena masses from Jan. 5 to 13; Penitential Walk with Mary on Jan. 13 at 4 a.m.; Traslacion of the image of the Sto. Nino in the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-lapu; a fluvial procession and a grand procession.
The theme for the celebration is “Santo. Niño: Our Source of Peace in the Walk of Faith.”
Devotees are encouraged to reflect on the journey towards Jesus by following His ways and to help in the mission to spread the Good News. Devotees are also reminded to strictly follow the health protocols during the celebration.
“As we resume all our religious activities this forthcoming Fiesta Señor, we appeal to all devotees, pilgrims, and guests to adhere to all protocols which are being implemented for a safe, orderly, and solemn conduct of our religious celebration,” the basilica said.
