ILOILO CITY -- After years of delay, the P141.4-million multi-purpose Tamasak Arena Gym at Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo province, has finally been finished, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported.
The multi-purpose structure is built adjacent to the football field of Barotac Nuevo, known as the country’s football capital.
“This can be an excellent venue for major provincial and national sporting, cultural, social, and other events such as Palarong Pambansa,” said DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie Bueno in a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan.
The 10,000-square meter gym can accommodate a maximum of 4,200 people.
“The building is structurally designed to provide local communities with a reliable multi-purpose venue that can be used to host government services such as medical and dental missions, feeding programs, recreational activities, wellness activities, vaccination campaigns, and other similar events,” added Bueno.
The gym can also be used as a temporary evacuation center, providing a safer and stronger shelter for Ilonggos during calamities and disasters.
The Tamasak Arena Gym was built under the supervision of the DPWH Iloilo-2nd District Engineering Office in consultation with the local government of Barotac Nuevo town.
