New LPA forms inside PH area of responsibility

A new low pressure area (LPA) formed inside the country’s area of responsibility on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 16, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA, embedded within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), was estimated 445 kilometers east of General Santos City at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

PAGASA said Eastern Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA and ITCZ.

Cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may also prevail over Bicol Region, Quezon, Aurora, and Isabela due to the shear line—an area where cold and warm air meets.

PAGASA warned those in areas affected by the LPA, ITCZ, and shear line to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
