CEBU CITY—An Indian national wanted for illegal recruitment was arrested here on Monday night, Nov. 14.
Operatives of the Inayawan Police Station arrested the suspect Harjot Singh in Sitio Ciwac, Barangay Bulacao.
Singh had a pending warrant of arrest issued by Branch 5 of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Cebu City.
He was arrested on a warrant issued by Presiding Judge Ricky Jones Sanchez Macabaya.
The court recommended a bail of P120,000 for Singh.
In a statement by the Cebu City Police Office, Singh was accused of duping at least 26 individuals who were made to believe that they will be given jobs abroad.
The CCPO described Singh as the Top 1 Most Wanted Person on the municipal level.
Prior to the arrest, the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas filed cases against Singh for illegal recruitment and estafa.
The suspect allegedly offered jobs but demanded P20,000 for each of the jobseeker as processing fee.
When the victims still failed to land a job despite the payment, they decided to seek help from authorities.
It was later discovered that Singh is not a licensed recruiter with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
