BI prioritizing entry, exit of OFWs for holiday season

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has started prioritizing the entry and exit of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and other ports in time for the coming long Christmas holiday.

"There will be an influx of OFWs this holiday season and we'll render them fast and efficient service so that they will have more time with with their families," said BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

The BI chief said they have recently rolled out the enhanced border control information system (BCIS), a database of all travel records of incoming and outgoing passengers.

He said the system has online connectivity with the Department of Migrant Worlers (DMW) which handles the issuance of OFWs work documents.

This way, Tansingco said immigration officers can easily access and process the OFWs overseas employment certificate (OEC).

He added the online system can also detect spurious OEC.
