San Juan LGU to launch Kadiwa caravan for Christmas

The San Juan City local government, in partnership with the national government and other government agencies, announced on Tuesday, Nov. 15, that it will launch a Christmas fair aimed at providing the public with cheaper products amid the continuous increase in the prices of basic commodities.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the "Kadiwa sa Pasko" fair in the city will open on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 8:00 a.m. at the San Juan City Hall Atrium.

Kadiwa sa Pasko is a project of the Office of the President and the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) together with the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The project aims to bring cheap but high-quality goods to the public to help them cope with the price hikes this Christmas season, farm-to-market style. It also intends to promote the harvests of farmers and fisher folks as well as basic commodities of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSMEs) owners.

“We are very supportive of efforts like this that aim to help our fellow Filipinos not just to recover from the pandemic and increase their income, but make cheaper options accessible for our people,” Zamora said.

“In fact, we will also be having our annual Christmas bazaar in December so I’m inviting everyone to come here as well to help our small and medium business owners," he added.

Kadiwa sa Pasko will feature 30 exhibitors of the DA, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The DA will bring products straight from the farmers such as vegetables, fruits, fish, eggs, rice, and dairy products, the DTI will bring in items from MSMEs, while the DSWD and DOLE will showcase products made by their chosen beneficiaries.

Zamora said the caravan will open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The PMS intends to hold Kadiwa every pay day to give San Juaneños cheaper options.

In November, the city government and DTI also distributed cash cards to 100 MSMEs in the city as part of its efforts in helping the business sector recover from the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dubbed as the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG), the distribution of the cash cards containing P10,000 each was held at the San Juan City Hall Atrium.

Zamora explained that PPG is a livelihood seeding and entrepreneurship development program of the DTI which aims to assist small businesses like sari-sari stores, parlors, and others that were badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
