'8 billionth symbolic baby' born in Manila


A baby girl born in Tondo, Manila is considered as the symbolic 8th billionth baby from the Philippines.

Venice Mabansag of Delpan, Tondo was delivered via normal delivery at Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila on early Tuesday, Nov. 15.

“So we just witnessed the world's 8th billion baby in the Philippines. So we waited around two hours starting 11 p.m. last night and the baby was delivered at around 1:29 a.m., normal spontaneous delivery,” Dr. Romeo Bituin, the hospital’s chief medical professional staff, said in a report from GMA News.

The global population was projected to reach eight billion today, Nov. 15, based on the latest projection by the United Nations (UN).

The UN added that the world’s population could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050.
