150 families affected by Navotas fire temporarily sheltered in evacuation center
The Navotas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said on Tuesday, Nov. 15, that around 150 families from barangays Bagumbayan North and Navotas West in Navotas City affected by the fire incident on Monday, Nov. 14, are temporarily sheltered in the CIF4 evacuation center in the city.
Navotas DRRMO Head Vonne Villanueva said that as of 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, the city has already registered around 441 families that were affected by the fire. Some of the victims sought shelter from their relatives.
The city government said the affected families registered by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) received P2,000 each from Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco and City Representative Toby Tiangco. They were also given hot meals, hygiene kits, mats, and blankets.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire incident on Monday resulted in the death of five residents, including a two-year-old boy, and injury to two others.
The fire was raised to first alarm at around 3:58 p.m. and went up to second alarm at around 4:09 p.m. It escalated to third alarm at around at 4:13 p.m and was raised to fourth and fifth alarm at 6:11 p.m.
The fire alarm reached Task Force Alpha at around 6:22 p.m. before it was declared under control by firefighters at about 8:29 p.m. The blaze was extinguished at around 9:22 p.m.
Villanueva said that there were more or less 100 houses razed by the fire.
The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation, the Navotas City Fire Station said.
