QC cop slain, another hurt in Caloocan City shootout

A police officer and the suspect behind the indiscriminate firing incident were killed, while another cop was injured in a shootout in Caloocan City on Sunday, Nov. 13.

The Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) identified the slain police officer as Cpl. Noel Ogano. Injured was Lt. Col. Jerry Castillo. Both are assigned to the Quezon City Police District- Special Weapons and Tactics Team (QCPD-SWAT).

The CCPS identified the suspect as Martin Luther Nuñez, 47, a resident of Block 8 Lot 27 Palmera Homes, Nova East Maligaya, Parkland, Barangay 177, Caloocan City.

According to the QCPD, members of the QCPD SWAT and Pasong Putik Station (PS 16) conducted a followup operation against Nunez. The suspect allegedly fired his handgun along Bougainvilla St. Brgy. Pasong Putik Proper, Quezon City at around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The QCPD located him in his house in Barangay 177, Caloocan CIty and tried to negotiate for him to surrender.

The CCPS said the mother of the suspect, identified as Renee Diga, locked the gate while the negotiation was ongoing.

Police said the suspect suddenly fired shots at them.

A firefight occurred resulting in the death of Ogano and Nuñez.

Investigation is ongoing.
