P20-M illegal drugs seized in Central Visayas in 30 days


CEBU CITY – Police seized illegal drugs worth close to P20 million and more than 700 drug suspects were arrested from Oct. 13 to Nov. 12 in Central Visayas.

The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) described the 30-day accomplishment a big success.

The PRO 7 reported that 30 days after Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba assumed his post as Region 7 chief of police, 766 persons involved in illegal drugs were arrested in 554 anti-illegal operations.

Forty-six were listed as high-value individuals.

No deaths were reported in anti-drug operations where 16,463.08 grams of shabu worth P11.9 million were confiscated.

Also, 65,257.80 grams of fully grown marijuana plants valued at P7.8 million were seized. Some 20 capsules of ecstasy valued at P34,000 and two grams of cocaine worth P10,600 were also confiscated.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office recorded the biggest haul of illegal drugs with 7,331.46 grams of shabu totaling P49.8 million and 254.97 grams of marijuana worth P30,500.

A total of 789 operations against wanted persons were also conducted that resulted into the arrest of 129 most wanted persons.

The Cebu Police Provincial Office had the most number of arrests with 252 followed by the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office with 218 and Cebu City Police Office with 158.

The PRO 7 also reported 306 operations against loose firearms that resulted in the arrest of 66 persons and the recovery of 329 firearms and five explosives.
