Lindsey Vander Weide erupted 29 points to help Petro Gazz survive Chery Tiggo in five thrilling sets, 25-14, 24-26, 25-14, 21-25, 15-9, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Vander Weide went off with 25 attacks, two aces and two blocks while MJ Phillips added 23 markers built in 15 kills and seven blocks.
The Angels bounced back in their five-setter loss against Cignal last Nov. 10 to climb 4-2 in the standings and inch closer to a semifinal berth.
Tied 6-all after Czarina Carandang's drop ball in the deciding set, Mylene Pablo unwrapped the Angels’ 9-3 run after a through the block point.
Philipps then scored three quick hits capped by a single block on Jelena Cvijovic before Vander Weide launched another crosscourt and a crucial block on Mylene Paat to assure the win for Petro Gazz.
“We take it. We take every win. We need every game so magandang lesson na sa amin coming off from out loss. In the fifth set, ‘yong composure that we need nabawi from last game. Tingin ko lumakas naman, na-turn out naman sa game na to,” said Petro Gazz coach Benson Ricafort.
In the Crossovers’ side, Paat posted 21 points while Carandang and Ej Laure contributed 17 and 11 markers apiece as they slipped to a 5-2 slate moving forward to their semifinal bid.
