ZAMBOANGA CITY – Senator Rissa Hontiveros said there is a need to strengthen the National Risk Reduction Management Office for better disaster response.
The senator made the statement on Friday, Nov. 11, during her visit in this city where she donated P5 million cash for the victims, internally displaced persons and the lumads who were affected by Typhoon Paeng which also wreaked havoc here.
The funds came from the senator’s Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations program.
Senators Bong Revilla Jr. also visited this city and brought relief goods and P5 million in cash to victims of the recent storm.
Revilla, who arrived on Thursday, Nov. 10, met with Mayor John Dalipe and Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja at City Hall where he was briefed on Zamboanga City’s disaster response.
The senator then proceeded to two Zamboanga evacuation centers to distribute bags and boxes containing rice, sardines, and hygiene kits.
Revilla said he would have come to Zamboanga earlier but had to make a detour to Cavite, his home province, which was also badly hit by the storm.
