Progressive group calls for climate justice: 'Seas are rising, so are we'
Members of fishers’ group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya), together with climate advocates and various marginalized sectors, are set to mount a local climate strike to reiterate their calls for climate justice.

“, Filipino fisherfolk, extend our solidarity to the young climate activists and environmental champions across the world who stand up against climate injustice,” said Pamalakaya National Spokesperson Ronnel Arambulo on Friday, Nov. 11.
In relation to this, Pamalakaya has been airing its opposition against reclamation projects in the country. Earlier, the group disclosed that 187 reclamation projects were detected across the Philippines, 30 of which were detected in Manila Bay.
“We want the world to know that the present Marcos administration has yet to do anything to stop these reclamation projects that threaten both the marine ecology and the livelihood of a significant number of fisherfolk and coastal populations,” Arambulo furthered.
In a press statement, Pamalakaya said they will demand climate justice in a form of “accountability and compensation” from rich countries “responsible for destruction of the environment.”
Meanwhile, the local climate strike will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12. It will be spearheaded by Youth Advocates for Climate Action Philippines (YACAP).
