The 6-foot-1 combo guard announced his return in an emphatic fashion, sizzling with 50 points built on 11 triples as Bay Area set Rain or Shine ablaze, 120-87, in the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Friday, Nov. 11.

The Dragons continued to spew flames and dealt the Elasto Painters a 33-point beatdown behind Powell who suddenly waxed hot in the middle quarters to tear the game apart and pick up their seventh win through nine games, enough for a share of the second spot of standings with Converge.

Powell just couldn’t miss from the field, doing it in a variety of ways from slashing through the Rain or Shine defense or shooting over his defenders from deep in the second and third quarter explosion that saw him drop 19 and 20 points, respectively.

Up only by two, 42-40, over the young E-Painters midway through the second frame, Powell nailed three straight triples to trigger a massive 15-2 run and take a 57-42 lead at the half.

The prolific import, who took the place of Andrew Nicholson in the Bay Area roster, didn’t stop there as he went on to score 12 of the Dragons’ first 16 points in the third quarter to establish a huge 22-point lead, 73-51.

Powell’s hot shooting eventually rubbed off on the rest of the Bay Area which kept Rain or Shine at bay until the final buzzer.

Anton Asistio was the lone bright spot for Rain or Shine with 20 points on six triples while Rey Nambatac added 12 points. Elasto Painters new import Ryan Pearson, meanwhile, had an forgettable debut, only finishing with nine points, three assists and two rebounds as ROS slid down to a 4-5 record in the standings.
