Maricar Reyes on 2009 video scandal: 'I thought about suicide'
By Neil Ramos
Maricar Reyes has opened up on the video scandal that rocked her showbiz career early on.
Talking to Toni Gonzaga about it recently, Maricar admitted she actually thought of ending her life after it was made public.
She wrote the same in her recently published book: "I thought about suicide, I fantasize how the world would feel sorry for being so mean to me. Suicide would be both my relief and my vengeance."
It also triggered a huge amount of anger.
She said: “I hated everyone who watched, shared, made nasty comments, insensitive jokes or had anything to do with the spread of the video."
At that point, Maricar thought it was the end of everything for her.

She wrote, "Everything was ruined. I was ruined. My life was ruined."
The only thing that stopped her from actually taking her own life was the thought of her family suffering over it.
"Parang mas lalong hindi fair sa kanila."
Hard as it was for her, Maricar bravely made efforts to move on.
She credited her family, particularly her brother, for supporting her during those times.
Maricar also acknowledged Johnny Manahan's help, telling her to simply focus on her craft.
“Work really helps," she said. "Having responsibility na alam kong people on the set would be depending on me to show up...(and) kailangan ko ring buhayin ‘yung sarili ko."
Then there's Yeng Constantino.
It was the singer-actress who introduced her to a mentor who eventually helped her heal.
“Hindi lang pala ako ‘yung broken, first time akong makaramdam ng hiya," Maricar related.
In the end, she realized, "There are also other problems in this world more than your own."
