A total of 119 fire victims received livelihood assistance from the Valenzuela City local government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the People's Park Amphitheater in Valenzuela City on Thursday, November 10.
The program is part of the Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG) under the DSWD’s Memorandum Circular No. 02 Series 2021, or Sustainable Livelihood Program, which financially supports the victims in the provision of the Technical Assistance Resource Augmentation (TARA) to different local governments during times of disasters in the country.
The DSWD allocated a total of P1,998,000 for the livelihood program.
The fire victims consisted of 107 individuals from Barangay Arkong Bato and 12 from Barangay Malinta.
The city government said each beneficiary was given a livelihood grant ranging from P15,000 to P20,000 depending on the damages to their properties due to the fire.
It said that the beneficiaries underwent an assessment to determine their capacity to sustain a profitable livelihood.
It added that the beneficiaries should not have received other livelihood grants from other agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) or the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The TARA is a DSWD program that assists local government units in implementing programs and services that alleviate poverty and empower disadvantaged individuals, families, and communities.
