'Once Upon A Time…Hanbok Fairytale of Wooh Nayoung' exhibit set at KCC PH
The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines will be hosting the exhibit “Once Upon A Time... Hanbok Fairytale of Wooh Nayoung” that will showcase childhood fairy tales including “Cinderella” and “Alice in Wonderland” done with a twist by illustrator Wooh Nayoung.
Running from Nov. 17 to Feb. 28 at KCC Philippines, the exhibit will present Wooh Nayoung’s art depicting Korean painting in different degrees from clothes, hairstyle, accessories to sceneries.



A total of 32 illustrations at the exhibit hall will feature reinterpreted scenes from the fairy tales written by Hans Christian Andersen, Grimm Brothers and Lewis Carroll.
In her piece entitled “Alice,” the hanbok (Korean traditional clothing) worn by the character Alice and the rabbit also bore the traditional accessories that come with it.
In addition, Wooh Nayoung will unveil her new work for the first time in the Philippines. The famous Filipino legend characters Malakas and Maganda from “The Legend of Malakas and Maganda” will be drawn by the artist in a traditional Korean painting style. The piece will be available only at KCC Philippines.
Wooh Nayoung is an illustrator who works on digital drawings of characters wearing hanbok. She majored in Korean painting in the university and worked as an art director for a game company.
She started to receive international attention with her “Fairytale in Hanbok” series including “Alice in Wonderland” in 2011.
Wooh Nayoung has collaborated with global companies. These include “World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth (2017) of Blizzard Entertainment, “Spiderman Deadpool” (2018) of Marvel Comics, Maleficent II” (2019), “Cruella” (2021), and “Eternals” (2021) of Disney Korea.
The exhibit “Once Upon A Time, Hanbok Fairytale of Wooh Nayoung” will be available from Nov. 17 to Feb. 28 at KCC Philippines at 59 Bayani Rd., Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. excluding Sundays and Holidays.
There will be no entrance fee for the exhibit but guests are advised to bring their vaccination card to present upon entry. Only a maximum of 60 people are allowed inside the building at a time for health and safety regulations.
