Reporting a crime in Metro Manila will soon be app-based too as the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) launched a mobile application that will help facilitate requests for police assistance from the public.
NCRPO director Police Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo said the S.A.F.E NCRPO APP was developed by police IT experts led by Police Lt. Col. Maric Foncardas, and will be easy to use by smart phone holders in both Apple and Android platforms.

"This is part of the effort of the NCRPO to have a quick response. This is a more effective and quick system of reporting any crime or problem that requires the help of police while the situation is currently happening with the use of cell phones," said Estomo.
Estomo said the S.A.F.E NCRPO APP Alert mobile application is an alert server which will be monitored by Tactical Operation Centers (TOCs) of NCRPO.
By using the app, he explained that the usual protocols are shortened and lead to quick police response.
"In just a touch of a finger in the mobile or cellular phone, the app will provide an alert to the command center which will be immediately conveyed by the personnel on duty to the nearest police patrolling in the area under their jurisdiction. The police response clock is indeed shortened and real time, " said Estomo.
"Likewise, the mobile application is not dependent on Internet connection. In the absence of Internet signal, alerts will be relayed through Short Messaging System (SMS) signal. Moreover, the application is compatible with the Unlimited Text load provided by the Telco (telecommunication companies," he added.
Estomo said the app will also provide a dedicated police alert hotline for all the Churches, Mosques and other similar institutions, and barangay halls within Metro Manila for an immediate police assistance for the protection of the religious sector and of the general community through the barangays.
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, the NCRPO met with barangay officials in Manila and the southern part of Metro Manila (Makati, Pasay, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Taguig) and oriented them on how the app works which include inputting of necessary details of app users.
In order to avoid pranks and fake calls for police assistance, Estomo said those who plan to use the app will be asked to register.
"For the meantime, police personnel from the Manila Police District (MPD) and Southern Police District (SPD) who will be handling the Communication Centers together with the barangay officials of the said districts were called to be oriented of the said application," said Estomo.
"Personnel from the Northern Police District, Eastern Police District and Quezon City Police District will be oriented next in line," he added.
The first batch of cellular phones with installed S.A.F.E NCRPO APP was distributed to some police commanders and personnel.
The soft launching of the app will be on Monday, Nov. 14.
