Fresh from his podium finish win at the Paeng Nodalo Memorial Rally as a returning race car driver over the weekend, movie actor Jomari Yllana reported for work at the Paranaque City Hall the following day (Monday) to launch the Telemed online health consultation service for his constituents. That's how he can easily switch gears between public service, acting, and a sport he loves.
His partner Abby Viduya describes him as an "action man" who starts his work as a Paranaque City councilor early in the morning. "Usually in the morning, on the phone, marami ng requests, marami ng kailangang puntahan. Jom is very quiet but he's an action man. Mabilis yan pagdating sa pagbibigay ng serbisyo sa mga tao."
Jomari's good track record is certainly the reason why the voters in his district in Paranaque gave him a fresh mandate in the May elections. The actor said plans going forward within the next three years "aren't clear yet" but it was important to give people the best service during his last term as a city councilor.
As an example, he said he supports the online medical appointment service - which can be accessed at seeyoudoc.com - to prevent people from falling in line or waiting too long for their consultation time with the doctor. Patients can have a Zoom-style meeting with a specialist where they can also be prescribed medications or be guided on what to do. This is a service that Paranaque City residents can now avail for free.

"I would like to congratulate everyone involved in this telemed project: the World Health Organization, the Department of Health, of course our Mayor and congressmen. This is a big thing for us. I tried the web page and applied as a patient. It's very easy to use. Ang galing ng technology. Sana maraming matulungan," the actor-slash-councilor said.
Asked about his recent Subic racing experience, Jomari said he was just after enjoying the competition and getting it over and done with. So it came as a surprise to him and his navigator Jeremie Lo (a.k.a J-Lo) that they ended up 2nd runner-up and placed in the Top 10 out of 26 participants.

"It was really good. Masarap sa pakiramdam. Kumbaga parang test din ito. Matagal akong hindi kumarera. I can say am good for another five years. Konting focus lang. At least I can see more arenas at meron akong na cut na line which is rally competition. Nasubukan ko na sya, kumbaga nabinyagan na ako. Masasabi kong kaya ko sya. Kaya kong manalo," Jomari excitedly remarked.
The actor said his race became even more special because his 24-year old son Andre paid him a surprise visit, and this further motivated him to win. (Andre is his son with former wife Aiko Melendez).
"I was very touched that he was there. Masarap ang pakiramdam na nandun si Andre to share the moment with me. He stayed with me until the rally finished and after that, we were still bonding until 4 a.m.," he revealed.

Jomari added that he sees Andre taking after his footsteps "99.9 per cent." Andre is already a member of the Ylanna Racing team. The actor said he just needs to equip his son and "guide him the proper way on how to be a professional."
The actor further described Andre as "very hands-on."
"My nicest photos at the rally were taken by him. He supports me all the time. Wala akong competition na pinapalagpas nya, kahit noong bata pa sya. Lahat ng competition ko he was there," Jomari mused.
Even though they will both be busy with showbiz commitments soon, father and son plan to get together again next month.
"We make it a point na ang communication hindi nawawala. Hindi man kami nagkikita, lagi naman kaming nag-uusap," Jomari closed.
