The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) lauded on Thursday, Nov. 10, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for its major contribution to the successes of the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (NAP P/CVE).
In a statement, the DILG conferred the highest recognition to the BJMP for its support to the implementation of the P/CVE program by steering its cluster’s distinctive accomplishments in furtherance of the government’s aspirations in safeguarding the country’s peace, development, and security agenda.
BJMP Deputy Chief for Administration Supt. Ruel S. Rivera received the certificate of commendation during the Talaghay 2022: National P/CVE Summit held in Quezon City last Nov. 8.
During the summit, the BJMP presented the report of the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) with Terrorism-Related Cases and Violent Extremist Offenders and its objective of strengthening and sustaining safety and security through conflict prevention and community resilience.
Embodying the whole-of-nation approach, the BJMP said it continues to partner with the appropriate government agencies in carrying out and further strengthening its P/CVEI interventions, particularly in the deradicalization of PDL.
BJMP chief Director Allan Iral assured that the bureau will continue to deepen its efforts to make every jail unit not only a physical but also an ideological stronghold, where no extremist ideologies can penetrate.
“Naka-aalarma, kung iisipin, sapagkat ang usaping PCVE ay usaping pang-seguridad, hindi lamang ng general population ng PDL kundi maging ng ating mga kawani na nangangasiwa sa kanila, ng ating mga pasilidad, at ng buong kumonidad (It is alarming, if you think of it since the PCVE issue pertains to security, not only in the general population of the PDL but also among the personnel supervising them, our facilities and the whole community),’’ Iral stated.
“Bahagi rin ito ng ating pananagutan sa bayan kaya naman mahalagang bigyan natin ito ng kaukulang puwang (Part of this is our responsibility to the country that is why it is important to provide it with the appropriate concern),’’ he added. (Chito A. Chavez)
