BACOLOD CITY – This city has logged almost 600 dengue cases from January to October, an increase of 195.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
Data released by the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) said a total of 890 dengue cases with 13 fatalities were recorded as of Oct. 29. Patients were one month to 86-years-old.
In the same period last year, this city only had 301 cases with three deaths.
Dr. Grace Tan, CESU head, said Barangays Granada and Mansilingan were considered hot spot areas where there is increasing number of cases for four consecutive weeks or death case.
Barangays with highest dengue cases were Mansilingan with 109; Taculing, 73; Estefania, 64; Tangub, 59; Singcang-Airport, 57; Villamonte, 52; Alijis, 48; Cabug, 47; Sum-ag and Mandalagan with 43 cases each; Handumanan, 34; Bata, Granada, and Vista Alegre with 31 cases each; and Banago, 25.
Barangays with clustering cases or with three or more cases within four consecutive weeks from Oct. 8 to Oct. 29 were Vista Alegre, Granada, Estefania, Mansilingan, Cabug, Mandalagan, Singcang-Airport, Handumanan, Banago, and Taculing.
The City Health Office urged households to search and destroy all breeding and nesting places of mosquitoes.
Anyone with fever or flu like symptoms are advised to seek early treatment or consultation on the second day.
The CHO also encouraged the public to stay hydrated with water or oresol especially if with fever.
