ILOILO CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-6 is pushing for stronger implementation of labor laws for tourism workers at world-famous Boracay Island after the establishment of a human resource (HR) network.

“The role of the HR is to humanize the law and equalize the situation,” said DOLE-6 (Western Visayas) Director Sixto Rodriguez Jr. during the recent oath-taking of the Boracay HR Network.
Rodriguez emphasized to the different industries in the country’s most famous beach destination in Malay town, Aklan province the importance of implementing the government’s policies on basic labor standards in their companies.
“Our main purpose here is to improve the lives of the majority and lessen or eradicate poverty in our respective places,” noted Rodriguez.
The Boracay HR Network, which was formed under the tutelage of the DOLE-Aklan Provincial Office, is a link between the local tourism businesses operating in the resort island and the government.
Rodriguez, a lawyer, said the Boracay HR Network must be able to campaign on balancing the rights of workers as well as the management.
He added that management must always “exercise it in good faith.”
Boracay HR Network president Edgardo Bruan Jr. assured DOLE that officials and members will cooperate with the government to address various concerns of tourism workers.
