FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri drew with International Master Joel Pimentel in the ninth and final round to reign supreme in the blitz section of the Manny Pacquiao and Buena Viel Construction Chess Cup held recently in Naga City.

The 16-year-old Negros native finished undefeated with 8.5 points highlighted by eight straight victories including one over Jasper Faeldonia, the eventual second placer with eight points.
It was a sweet victory for Nouri, who represented the country in the World Juniors Championship in Sardinia, Italy.
Pimentel wound up third after edging Jonathan Jota via tiebreaker after the two finished with identical 7.5 points.
Rounding out the top 10 with seven points apiece were IM Ronald Dableo, Vince Duane Pascual, Jerry Areque, Ricarte Tiauson, Samson Chiu Chin Lim, Virgen Gil Ruaya, Victor Anas, Michael Linde and Limuel Aaron Lorenzo.
Meanwhile, 12-year-old Jerick Faeldonia ruled the Under-16 Rapid section with 7.5 points out of a possible nine.
Mindmovers PH CC, a team composed of Rodolfo Panopio, Samson Lim, Jan Clifford Labog and Ronald Hermida, ruled the team event with 16 match points and the top purse worth P100,000.
