54 solo parents in Valenzuela City get educational assistance

A total of 54 registered solo parents in Valenzuela City whose children are studying in the tertiary level received educational assistance from the city government on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) held the distribution of the education assistance at the Valenzuela City Town Hall.

The city government said the qualified beneficiaries have undergone home visitation and validation from the CSWDO and have submitted requirements, including barangay indigency, affidavit of separation or guardianship (if separated), death certificate of spouse (if widowed), birth certificate of children dependent on the parent, a valid identification card, and a solo parent certification from their barangay.

They shall be granted with a maximum of P5,000 financial help per semester or P10,000 every school year, it added.

The CSWDO also said the children of the solo parents must maintain a grade of 82 percent per subject per semester until they graduate from college for them and their parents to remain eligible for the financial assistance.

Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian, Solo Parents Focal Person Kagawad Kisha Ancheta, and Ms. Linda Santiago, focal person for Women and Family of Valenzuela City Social Welfare Office (CSWDO), led the distribution of the education assistance.

In October, the city government distributed new identification cards to solo parents that will allow them access to different benefits. It also provides livelihood programs as well as job placement referral to the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) to help the solo parents.
