Wesley So captures Chess.com Global Champs title, pockets P11.7 M
Grandmaster Wesley So needed just two games to down GM Nihal Sarin and triumph in the inaugural Chess.com Global Championship in Toronto, Canada Monday, Nov. 7 (Tuesday in Manila).

The Cavite-born So pounced on the Indian sensation, 4.5-1.5, to pocket the $200,000 cash purse (around P11.7 million) in the $1.1 million tournament.
The victory somehow erased the stigma of So’s failed title bid in the 2022 US Open, as well as in the Grand Chess Tour and the Fischer Random world chess championship.
Prior to the win, So had beaten Denis Lazavik, Vasyl Ivanchuk, Jeffery Xiong, Dmitry Andreikin and Hikaru Nakamura.
Up next for So is the $1.6 million 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour in San Francisco, California.
