ILOILO CITY – The Catholic Church and the laity in Iloilo kicked off Vocation Month here over the weekend.

“Whatever is the vocation of an individual, be it for the priesthood or the religious life, lay consecrated, married life, or single blessedness, he or she is called to Holiness which is the primary vocation of the Church and her members,” said Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon, director of the Jaro Archdiocesan Commission on Vocations.
Gentizon led the congregation to reflect on what vocation means and how it can be “sown, nurtured, and safeguarded” among the laity.
“The world right now needs not only holy and good priests. It also needs holy good sisters or nuns, husbands or fathers, wives and mothers, single people, and concentrated lay men and women. When we strive to become faithful witnesses of our faith through prayer and active charity, vocation shall surely flourish in our midst,” added Gentizon, president of the Directors of Vocation in the Philippines (DVP)-Iloilo chapter.
Jaro Archbishop Jose Romeo Lazo led a mass at Molo Church in Molo District here during the launching.
A vocation walk from the Molo Church to Jaro Cathedral in Jaro District in this city was also held. It was participated in by seminarians from St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary and St. Joseph Regional Seminary as well as the different religious congregations and city parishes.
