Marcos expects 'positive outcomes, impacts' from APEC summit
The Philippines is expecting to gain "positive outcomes and impacts" from President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Thailand next week.

"We look forward to positive outcomes for the President’s engagement here, and certainly, we will be looking forward to the positive impact of the President’s visit over the next couple of years through his participation in APEC," Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Eric Gerardo Tamayo said in a press briefing on Monday, Nov. 7.
Tamayo emphasized that they are particularly to bring into the conversation various current global issues affecting the region.
He said among the positive outcomes they are looking forward to is to be able to highlight the "disruptions" in the economies of the region and the need to address it.
"his is in the context of the challenges that we are facing around the world. If you see the economic prognosis coming from our experts, the global economic situation is indeed quite distracting many lives and many livelihoods. And it is important for us to be able to highlight the fact that economies need to address and need the future proof of the region in responding to these disruptions, be it coming from the pandemic and other disruptions around the globe," Tamayo said.
"So, it is focused on the drivers of the economy, particularly on ensuring the flow and the operations of the various supply chains around the globe," he added.
The President, Tamayo said, will also aim to highlight the "critical role of essential workers" to provide and facilitate for the safe passage of essential workers who had been affected by the pandemic.
"So, these are just some of the key highlights that we think should be considered by economic leaders around the region," Tamayo said.
Marcos is also expected to call the attention of economic leaders on the response the region must take amid challenges on food security, energy, and climate change during the summit.
Marcos will join the APEC summit on Nov. 16 to 19.
Prior to his Thailand trip, he will first participate in the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Cambodia from Nov. 10 to 13.
