A 5.0-magnitude earthquake shook Cagayan and neighboring provinces on Monday afternoon, Nov. 7, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the quake struck 11 kilometers (km) southwest of Dalupiri Island, Calayan, Cagayan at 1:34 p.m.

It said the earthquake was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Calayan, Cagayan; Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte; and Intensity III (weak) in Luna, Apayao and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

Meanwhile, it was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Lal-lo, Buguey, Lasam, and Peñablanca in Cagayan.

The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

Phivolcs advised the public to stay vigilant as aftershocks may occur.
