Children aged five to 11 are not yet eligible to receive a booster shot of Covid-19 vaccine, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
"Until now, booster shots are still not recommended by the Philippine government to our children five to 11 ," said DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire in a recent press briefing.
Regulatory agencies in the country have yet to give clearance for the provision of booster shots for the said age group, said Vergeire.
"Even our experts, wala pa rin pong narerekomenda diyan (they have yet to provide recommendations for that)," she added.
"We will be informing the public kung sakaling magkaroon tayo ng bagong polisiya na nirerekomenda na natin ang boosters for five to 11 pag sapat na ang ebidensya (in case we have a new policy that we are recommending boosters for five to 11 once the evidence is sufficient)," she furthered.
DOH data showed that 5,231,460 children under the said age group were already fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The figure represents 48.02 percent of the target population for five to 11 years old which was 10,895,015.
