TNT vents ire on hapless Terrafirma to get back on winning track

TNT vented all of its frustration from the drama surrounding the team in the past week and during its two-game losing skid to the hapless Terrafirma, 121-90, to get back into the winning track in the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Cam Oliver led the charge for the Tropang Giga who were still without prolific guard Mikey Williams as part of the management-imposed suspension, finishing with 26 points, 15 rebounds and five assists as TNT improved to a 4-4 record in the standings.

Oliver conspired with JP Erram and Jayson Castro, combining for 22 of the TNT’s 37 points in the third quarter where the Tropang Giga broke the game wide open and completely shook off the then hard-fighting Terrafirma side.

Erram and Castro finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively, while Calvin Oftana added 15 across his name. Jjay Alejandro also took advantage of his playing time as TNT head coach Chot Reyes opted to deploy most of his second stringers in the final frame, contributing a career-high 17 points.

“Just to be able to control the things within our control. Number one thing is our effort, how hard we come into ball games, how hard we play,making the extra effort,” said head coach Chot Reyes.

“There are so many things outside our sphere of influence, outside our control we can’t worry about those things so we just went back and kept it simple focus on the things we could control,” he added

The win came after TNT players made their own dinner together with suspended guard Mikey Williams who had been called out by team manager Jojo Lastimosa for his absence to the team’s practices.

The victory was also a fitting send-off to Reyes and players Erram and RR Pogoy who were both part of the Gilas Pilipinas pool who would be flying to Jordan and Saudi Arabia for the fifth window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

On the other hand, the slump continues for Terrafirma as it absorbed its 24th straight defeat despite the 32 points from import Lester Prosper.
