One more dead due to ‘Paeng’ as toll rises to 155; agri-infra damage now at P6.8B – NDRRMC


One more fatality due to Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” was recorded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday, Nov. 5, raising the death toll to 155.

Based on the latest situational report of the NDRRMC, there were 121 deaths that have already been confirmed while 34 deaths are still being validated.

The latest fatality was reported in the CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon or Region 4A). The total number of deaths in the region has reached 34.

Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) still has the highest number of fatalities at 63.

The Bangsamoro government is in the process of transitioning to early recovery after the rescue and retrieval operations, according to BARMM Minister of Interior and Local Government Naguid Sinarimbo.

On the other hand, Western Visayas (Region 6) has 33 deaths, followed by Eastern Visayas (Region 8) with five; Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9) and SOCCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos City or Region 12) with four each; MIMAROPA (Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan or Region 4B) with three; Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), Bicol Region (Region 5), and Central Visayas (Region 7) with two apiece; and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with one death.

There were 4,230,460 individuals that have been affected by Paeng; including 111,910 individuals who are staying in evacuation centers and 904,528 others who are being served outside temporary shelters.

The damage left by Paeng to agriculture and infrastructure has ballooned to P6.8 billion.

In agriculture, the losses amounted to P2.79 billion, affecting Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao (Region 10), BARMM, and CAR.

In infrastructure, a total of P4.17 billion worth of damage was incurred by Ilocos Region (Region 1), Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Davao Region (Region 11), SOCCSKSARGEN, and CAR.
