Converge eyes fifth straight win vs NLEX

Aldin Ayo is refusing to get too carried away by Converge’s winning run, noting that his wards’ familiarity to his system still needs some fine tuning when they gun for their fifth straight triumph against a sloppy NLEX side in the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The FiberXers, who now have won four consecutive games to rise to a solo third in the standing with a 5-2 record, eye to join Phoenix as the hottest teams in the league when they clash against the Road Warriors in the 4:30 p.m. showdown.

Following suit is the collision between Terrafirma and TNT – both of which looking to put their respective dry spells and drama behind after their 6:45 affair.

Ayo had defied expectations so far in his young coaching career, even scoring a hat trick against champion coaches Norman Black, Leo Austria and Chot Reyes. The FiberXers though had to grind out a 77-71 victory over Blackwater.

“We're still in the process of polishing our system. They already have the idea of what to do, but I always tell them that knowing is not enough,” said Ayo.

“Even if you know the system, it's about doing it, it's about executing it, and be the best in doing it. Wala pa kami dun sa sinasabing state which is yung mastery. Long way to go so we just take it one game at a time,” he added.

Out to put a stop to their streak are the Road Warriors who are aiming to regain steady footing under new head coach Frankie Lim.

NLEX are now 1-3 under Lim and he’s looking to get more contributions from the local crew of Kevin Alas, Matt Nieto, Don Trollano, Justin Chua and import Earl Clark if they wish to stand their ground against the high octane offense of Converge.

Leading the attack for the FiberXers is import Quincy Miller who is averaging stellar numbers of 32.4 points, 16.7 rebounds, 3.57 assists and 3.45 blocks per outing although he is getting ample support from the likes of Maverick Ahanmisi, Jeron Teng and most recently bench players RK Ilagan and Alec Stockton.
