Indonesian students hear a telling of Alamat ng Piña from Philippine consul general in Manado

Philippine Consul General to Manado Angelica C. Escalona joined the celebration of the Month of Indonesian Language and Literature 2022 by reading Alamat ng Piña (The Legend of the Piña) in the language Bahasa Indonesia to 50 elementary school students in Manado.
Bercerita Untuk Anak (Storytelling with Children), organized by Balai Bahasa Provinsi Sulawesi Utara (Regional Agency for Language in North Sulawesi), was held at the office of Balai Bahasa Provinsi Sulawesi Utara in Manado. Consul General Escalona, Elisa Meijer Ari Dartomo, head of the Association of the Spouse of Male Employees/Women Employees of the state electric company PLN (Suluttenggo Region), and Aditya Kurniawan of Balai Bahasa Provinsi Sulawesi Utara were the guest storytellers for the event.

Consul General Escalona, who is currently studying Bahasa Indonesia, wanted to share a story she enjoyed as a child. “I hope that the young people of Indonesia will learn more about their next-door neighbor, the Philippines,” she said. “North Sulawesi is geographically very close to Mindanao and we share many similarities.”
‘I hope that the young people of Indonesia will learn more about their next-door neighbor, the Philippines.’
The elementary students were from four elementary schools in Manado: Elementary School (SD) 36 Manado, SD 11 Manado, SD Citra Kasih, and Eben Haezer 1 Christian Elementary School. They actively participated in the Q&A session after the consul general read the story. When asked about what she thought the moral of the story was, one student said, “words are like prayers,” meaning what we said could turn into reality.
