Parañaque City bagged the most number of awards during the 2022 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony of the National Nutrition Council (NCC)-National Capital Region (NCR).
The city, for the very first time, won the most coveted Green Banner Seal of Compliance Award and joined by Muntinlupa City for the second time.
Parañaque and Muntinlupa were the only two awardees for the year 2021 during the ceremony held on Oct. 28 at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.
“We are very happy for our City Nutrition Committee, as well as for all our city and barangay nutrition workers and scholars, for this milestone,” said Parañaque City First District Rep. Edwin Olivarez, who was the mayor when the awards were achieved.
Rep. Olivarez and his wife, Janet, received the awards on behalf of the city.
Janet was the City Nutrition Action Officer when the National Nutrition Council conducted the assessments in 2021 to determine the awardees.
Olivarez said aside from the 2021 Green Banner Seal of Compliance Award, the city also won five special awards among the 16 cities and lone municipality in Metro Manila: Best LGU in Nutrition Governance; Best LGU in the Implementation of National Dietary Supplementation Program; Best LGU in the Performance of Nutrition Management Functions; Best LGU in the Implementation of Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition Program; and Best LGU in the Implementation of Nutrition Promotion Program for Behavior Change.
Dr. Ma. Cristina Peñaflorida, who was head of the City Nutrition Office at the time, said the awards were based on the NNC’s monitoring and evaluation of local level plan implementation of the NCR’s local government units.
She said the city also had three finalists in the Nutrition Workers Award for the year.
