BACOLOD CITY -- The city government here spent P13,017,302 worth of school supplies for pre-school and elementary pupils.
The distribution of a total of 70,735 packs of school supplies started on Thursday, Nov. 3, during a ceremony led by Councilor Al Espino, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panglunsod Committee on Education, at the Bacolod City National High School.
Other officials present in the ceremony were Executive Assistant IV Carmelli Bantug-Zayco, Executive Assistant III Atty. Bong Dilag (in charge of education) and Executive Assistant I Nancy Discutido.
Pre-school pupils will receive notebooks, jumbo crayons, popsicle sticks, glue, non-pointed scissors, pencils, and plastic envelopes.
Grades 1 to Grade 6 pupils stand to receive notebooks, rulers, double crayons, pad paper, sharpeners, pencils, ballpens, and plastic envelopes.
The project coincided with the full implementation of face-to-face classes on Nov. 2.
In 2016, the City Council approved an ordinance authored by former Councilor Caesar Distrito which provides free educational materials to all students of public elementary schools here.
