CEBU CITY – One-hundred families were rendered homeless in a fire that hit Barangay Mambaling here on All Saints’ Day, Nov. 1.
The Cebu City Fire Office (CCFO) said the fire destroyed 102 houses and damaged eight others.
Arson investigator Fire Office 3 (FO3) Emerson Arceo said damage was pegged at P1.8 million. The fire was reported at 9:58 p.m. and was put out at 11:07 p.m., Arceo added.
An unattended lighted candle allegedly caused the fire.
More than 500 individuals were affected by the fire and they are temporarily staying in the barangay gym.
The city Department of Social Welfare and Services has started giving initial assistance to the fire victims.
The fire in Barangay Mambaling was the second major blaze to hit Metro Cebu in two days.
Last Monday night, 61 houses were destroyed by a fire in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City. Seventy families were affected by the fire which lasted for more than hour before it was contained.
