More than 97,000 visitors flocked to different cemeteries and columbaria in Quezon City to pay respects to their departed loved ones on All Saints’ Day, Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The Quezon City government said that as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday, there were already 97,786 visitors who came to the city’s five cemeteries -- Bagbag Cemetery (more or less 33,303 visitors), Novaliches Cemetery (12,503), Himlayang Pilipino Memorial Park (19,782), Holy Cross Memorial Park (28,465), and Recuerdo Memorial Gardens (3,733) -- and to different columbaria based on the consolidated data of the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
The city government set up Covid-19 vaccination booths in some cemeteries for individuals who want to get vaccinated.
The QCPD said that as of 2 p.m., 168 Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel were deployed in the cemeteries while 102 were assigned to the columbaria. Police placed 66 assistance desks in the areas to immediately respond to the visitors in need.
It also said that 294 cops were deployed in different places of convergence and 145 in the city’s major thoroughfares on Tuesday.
Around 330 personnel from different departments and agencies such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Quezon City DPOS, Task Force Disiplina, and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) were also tapped to help the police force in maintaining peace and order.
Meanwhile, police said that they have already confiscated 71 prohibited items including 43 lighters, a scissor, a knife, and 26 other pointed objects.
No significant incidents related to “Undas” had occurred as of 2 p.m. on Tuesday, it added.
Earlier, the city police launched its drone squadron that will help in monitoring the areas and other anti-criminality operations during “Undas.”
