President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has recommended the establishment of a district office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to expedite repairs of bridges and national roads after the onslaught of natural calamities.
Marcos made the recommendation on Tuesday, Nov. 1, as he presided over a situational briefing in Maguindanao, which was heavily affected by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng.
“Why you don’t have a district office in the Bangsamoro? They should have a district office...that’s just the management of you need,” the President told BARMM officials.
“You should look into that because it will make everything much easier kapag may (if there’s already a) disrict office na that is designated to the BARMM area,” he added, noting that he asked about the status of damaged bridges in the area as they were the ones difficult to be fixed.
Marcos also asked social welfare officers in the region to follow what the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has been doing in terms of packing relief goods for those affected by natural calamities.
“Gamitin nyo yung sa DSWD (Do what the DSWD does)... because that comes from a long experience na what are the needs ,” he said.
