Optional wearing of face masks inside classrooms are now allowed, the Department of Education (DepEd) said on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

This is in accordance with Malacanang’s Executive Order (EO) No. 7 that allows voluntary wearing of face masks in indoor and outdoor settings, said DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa.

"Schools may immediately implement optional masking indoors pursuant to EO 7,” said Poa.

To note, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed EO No. 7 last Oct. 28.

It was stated that the use of face masks in indoor and outdoor settings shall be voluntary except in healthcare facilities, medical transport vehicles, and public transportation.

Mask wearing is still encouraged for the senior citizens, individuals with comorbidities, immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women, unvaccinated individuals, and symptomatic individuals.

"The general public, in compliance, with the MPHS (minimum public health standards), is hereby enjoined to exercise diligence in carrying out health protocols, such as the practice of good hygiene, frequent hand-washing, observance of physical distancing, and maintenance of good ventilation, especially in indoor settings," the EO stated.
