It’s National Teachers’ Month, so let’s take time to thank our former school mentors for their wisdom and guidance in molding us during our school days! I remember with fondness my teachers at Maryknoll College, primarily because they tolerated by naughtiness in their classes.
There was one particular nun during my college years who impacted me most. She encouraged me to write, write, write! I did and somehow she succeeded in motivating me to be a writer. My first dream was to be an agriculturist, believe it or not. I ended up being a journalist. Thank you sister for believing in me!

The Philippine Postal Corporation (Post Office) has issued stamps and official first day covers for National Teachers’ Month (NTM) 2022. with the theme, "Gurong Pilipino: Dangal ng Sambayanang Pilipino."
"In coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Metrobank Foundation, Inc., the post office design stamps to honor the hard work, sacrifices, and dedication of our teachers in molding the society," postmaster general Norman Fulgencio said.
Oct. 5 is designated as National Teachers’ Day pursuant to Republic Act No. 10743. This is also the culminating activity for National Teachers’ Month, when all teachers are praised and celebrated.
Teachers not only educate in the academic sense. They are also dignified beacons of imitable, good morals. The serene image of the teacher in the design also represents the common attribute of teachers being a source of refuge for students. Post Office In-house stamp designer Agnes C. Rarangol did the layout of the stamps.

This has been an exciting 11 days of mellow (or so I thought) October. Typhoon Karding on the way out at last, three cabinet officials fired (or resigned as they claim), an overseas undercover trip for our chief executive, his family, relatives, and political friends to watch a grand prix, the grisly assassination of journalist Percy Mabasa, (bringing about some rallies and prayer brigades on the spot he was killed), and a celebration of the feasts of Our Lady of the Rosary, our Guardian Angels.
But it is also an early season of joy for the sworn-in reappointed cabinet secretaries. Now, they can discharge their duties fully without a sword hanging over their heads. President Marcos signed their appointment at last!
Now comes newly-appointed executive secretary formerly justice of the Supreme Court Lucas Bersamins’ declaration that "it’s irrelevant to ask if President Bongbong Marcos used public funds to watch the F1 Singapore Grand Prix."
I beg pardon your, sir, we taxpayers think it’s pretty relevant to know how public funds are being spent. After all, "galing po sa hard work namin yun!" And retired Supreme Court Justice Adolf Azcuna said, "It’s never irrelevant when it comes to accounting for public funds. That’s precisely the ruling of the Supreme Court in the PDAF cases. Public office is public trust. And public officials at all times must be accountable to the people. That’s a bedrock principle enshrined in our constitution."
