National University made a masterful debut after thrashing Jose Rizal University, 25-14, 25-6, 25-12, in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Conference Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The UAAP defending champion Lady Bulldogs broke free from a slim 15-13 lead and unleashed a 10-1 run that saw them seal the first set.
With no glimmer of hope for the Bombers, the Bulldogs asserted complete mastery over the NCAA contender, only allowing them to score in a single digit in the next frame.
In a lopsided 41-12 recorded attacks, JRU slid to a 0-2 record in Pool C while NU joined Ateneo in the win column at 1-0.
Evangeline Alinsug had seven attacks and an ace for an impressive debut with the Lady Bulldogs.
Team captain Cess Robles tallied 11 points while Minierva Maaya added 10 points to exploit JRU’s defense.
Sydney Niegos and May Ruiz scored six each for JRU.
“We were a bit rusty coming off a one-week vacation and we just got back to training a week ago. We are still far from our competitive form but at it is a good thing we’re now back to our usual grind,” said NU coach Karl Dimaculangan.
Meanwhile, De La Salle swept the preliminaries in Pool D and made short work of Letran, 25-14, 25-9, 25-18, to gain a 3-0 record.
Julia Coronel scored 12 points off five attacks, six aces and one block.
