Filipino solons welcome US legislative delegation

Filipino lawmakers have welcomed another United States (US) congressional delegation to boost the bilateral ties between the Philippines and the US.

Pangasinan 3rd district Rep. Rachel Arenas, Marikina City 2nd district Rep. Stella Quimbo, and Camarines Sur 1st district Rep. Tsuyoshi Anthony Horibata welcomed the congressional delegation consisting of Democrat Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton and Republican Florida Rep. Mike Waltz at the Manila Golf and Country Club on Sunday night, Oct. 9.

Senator Imee Marcos was also part of the Philippine delegation.

Last August, Speaker Rep. Martin Romualdez led another PH congressional delegation during a PH-US friendship caucus. Filipino lawmakers met with Senator Edward John Marke; California Representatives Alan Lowenthal and John Garamendi; Virginia Rep. Donald Strnoff Beyer, Jr.; and American Samoa Rep. Aumua Amata Radewagen.

Meanwhile, in September, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. also met with US President Biden to strengthen the diplomatic ties between the two nations.

While the two Congressional delegations met on Oct. 9, the Philippines and the US held the first stage of a two-week long series of joint military exercises. Moulton and Waltz are both part of the US House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services.

The “Kamandag” War Games–the first to be held under the Marcos administration–are set to take place until October 14. South Korean and Japanese troops will also be present.
