ILIGAN CITY – A sub-leader of the Daulah Islamiyah-Turaifie Group and six followers surrendered to the military in Datu Piang, Maguindanao on Friday, Oct. 7.

The military identified the surrenderers as sub-leader Homi Abao Abdulmalik, alias “Umi,” 34, and followers alias “Tongs,” 29; alias “Bads,” 31; alias “Jer,” 34; alias “Tor,” 35; alias “Alex Mineral” and “Abu Ali,” 47; and alias “Kamad,” 47.
They submitted themselves to Lt. Col. Michael Glenn Manansala, commanding officer of the 6th Infantry Battalion at the unit headquarters in Barangay Buayan.
Surrenderers were presented to 601st Infantry Brigade commander Col. Oriel Pangcog at the brigade headquarters in Barangay Kamasi, Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
The presentation was witnessed by brigade deputy commander, Col. Ricky Bunayog, representatives from the Maguindanao Provincial Police Office headed by Lt. Col. Jobert Caldea, deputy provincial director for administration; Atty. Cyrus Torreña, provincial administrator; representatives from the local government unit, stakeholders, and mediamen.
Pangcog said that Abdulmalik and his followers were demoralized due to the continuous dwindling of their group and the hardships they were experiencing while trying to evade the military operating in the area.
They turned over their high-powered firearms – one 7.62mm M14 rifle, one rocket-propelled grenade, one 5.56mm M653 rifle, one 5.56mm M16A1 rifle, two caliber .30 sniper rifles, and one caliber .30 M1 Garand rifle.
