Scattered rains to persist in S. Luzon, VisMin due to ITCZ

Most of the country will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers due to the prevalence of intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said on Saturday morning, Oct. 8.

ITCZ or the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres will bring scattered rain showers in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned.

Due to the prevalence of this weather system, residents of Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Palawan were particularly warned of cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the combined effects of ITCZ and localized thunderstorms.

The state weather bureau warned the public to be vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides during heavy rains or severe thunderstorms that may be caused by ITCZ.

Two low pressure areas east of PH

Although no tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) in the coming days, PAGASA said there is a possibility that two low pressure areas (LPAs) east of the country may develop within 24 hours.

“Possible na within the next 24 hours ay may mabuo na dalawang LPA sa silangan ng bansa (Two LPAs spotted east of the country may develop within the next 24 hours),” said PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja in a public weather forecast.

“Yung isa ay posibleng nasa loob na ng PAR within the weekend at lalapit sa Northern Luzon, mababa ang tiyansa na ito ay maging isang bagyo (The other one may enter PAR within the weekend. It will approach Northern Luzon, but there remains a low chance that it will develop into a tropical cyclone),” he added.
