Acting Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz has ordered the strategic deployment of their modernized Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) in a move to strengthen the campaign against smuggling of products into the country.
The BOC has 20 FPVs and are regularly used in conduct of patrol and in special operations in coordination with other government agencies.

Ruiz, however, wanted more activities amid the allegations of rampant smuggling, specially agriculture products.
The FPV is a sea-proven high-speed interceptor that can withstand a sea state 3 while offering smooth navigation. In addition, it is equipped with Garmin Navigation systems and other standard water patrol equipment necessary to enhance the Bureau's border patrol functions.
Currently, two units each of the FPVs were deployed to the Port of Batangas, Port of Subic, Port of Limay, Port of Cebu, Port of Cagayan de Oro, and Port of Davao, one unit to Port of Iloilo, three units to Port of Manila, and four units to Port of Zamboanga.
