Marcos laments recent tragedies in Indonesia, Thailand
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. expressed condolences to the loved ones of the recent tragedies that befell neighboring countries Indonesia and Thailand as he offered prayers for those left behind.

Marcos said this after 131 died after chaos and violence erupted during an Indonesia league soccer match last week.
Meanwhile, 37 died, including 24 children, after a former policeman went on a rampage at a daycare center in Uthai Sawan, Thailand, on Thursday, October 6.
In a tweet, Marcos lamented the tragedies and prayed for the casualties and those left behind.
"We condole deeply with the families of those lost in the recent tragedies of the Indonesia football stampede and the Thailand daycare attack," he wrote on Saturday, October 8.
"We pray for the recovery of the survivors, healing of those left behind, and that the departed may rest in peace," he added.

Chaos ensued at the Kanjuruhan Stadium after alleged supporters of the losing Arema FC team rushed to the pitch after their defeat to their fierce rival Persebaya Surabaya. There were 42,000 people who watched the game on October 1.
The police reacted by firing tear gas into the packed stands, causing fans to flee for small exits that eventually resulted in a stampede that left many people trampled or suffocating to death. The use of tear gas is against FIFA guidelines.
Six people were charged over the stampede in Indonesia for negligence. These include three police officers and three others responsible for the match and its security.
The suspects face a maximum sentence of five years in prison if found guilty.
Meanwhile, reports said a former police officer killed 34 people, including 23 children, in a gun and knife rampage at a daycare center in Uthai Sawan, Thailand.
Police said most victims were stabbed to death. Reuters reported that kids at the daycare center ranged from two to five years old.
The attacker was said to be a former policeman who was dismissed last year due to drug allegations.

Reports said the suspect had come from the court and went on a killing spree at the daycare center when he did not find his child there. He was said to have always dropped his son at the center.
Reports said after his rampage, the suspect went home, where he killed his wife and child and eventually shot himself to death.
President Marcos' first State Visit since becoming Chief Executive was in Indonesia in August. Meanwhile, he is scheduled to go to Thailand next month for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Meeting.
