AFP touts peace, security gains in Marcos' first 100 days in office
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) highlighted on Saturday, Oct. 8, the accomplishments it made within the first 100 days in office of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, AFP Chief of Staff, said the military has made key advances in various areas including internal peace and security, external defense, modernization and capability development, and international bilateral and multilateral engagements.
To start off, Bacarro said among the result of their internal security and stability campaign were the dismantling of five guerilla fronts (GFs) of the Communist Party of the Philippines — New People's Army (CPP-NPA), neutralization of 310 communist rebels, and recovery of 300 firearms from communist groups. The AFP also neutralized 58 local terrorists and gained 54 firearms from terrorist groups.
The AFP also participated in the successful oath-taking of new members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), which serves as the interim regional government of the newly formed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The BTA includes representatives from both the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), two previously hostile groups that have since signed peace agreements with the government.
Relatedly, Bacarro said that the AFP assisted the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPARU) in the ongoing decommissioning of MILF personnel and their firearms. At least 19,345 MILF combatants and 2,450 firearms have already been decommissioned as part of the normalization process with the peace-inclined group.
"As protector of the people of the state, the AFP shall remain one of the catalysts for unity and progress," Bacarro said.
The AFP has also continued to improve its capabilities through the acuisition of key assets and equipment. As part of its ongoing modernization program, Bacarro said a total of 50 projects have been completed for Horizons 1 and 2, while 85 projects are still on the pipeline.
Bacarro also emphasized the importance of building and preserving ties with the international community. He said the AFP participated in 25 bilateral engagements and three multilateral activities with the United States, Japan, Singapore, Australia, China, Indonesia, India, Canada, South Korea, and Finland in the past three months.
“Anchored on the President's call for unity, the AFP will continue to support the whole of nation approach of the government, actively supporting its programs to build secure, resilient, and progressive communities leading towards a bright future for all Filipinos,” he added.
Marcos marked his 100th day as President on Friday, Oct. 7. It began when he was sworn into office on June 30.
