1,132 rice farmers from Northern Samar receive P5,000 aid from DA

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) has provided P5,000 financial assistance to 1,132 rice farmers from the first and second districts of Northern Samar.

Gabriel Banga, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) for Northern Samar, led the distribution this week under the 2022 Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA) in coordination with the Development Bank of the Philippines and Universal Storefront Services Corp.

The first batch was distributed in the municipalities of Biri, Capul, Lavezares, Lope de Vega, San Isidro, San Jose, Victoria, Catubig, Gamay, Las Navas, and Palapag.

Gov. Edwin Ongchuan said the money is intended for the purchase of input materials such as fertilizers, which are essential to increase rice productivity and enhance food security in the province.

He encouraged the farmer-beneficiaries to increase the production of rice, a staple food in the province.
