Former vice mayor in Samar murdered

TACLOBAN CITY â€“ A former vice mayor of Calbiga, Samar was gunned down on the national highway in Barangay Timbanagan, Calbiga on Friday, Oct. 7.

Police identified the victim as Miguel Abaigar Jr., 54, of Barangay Canticum, Calbiga.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was riding his bicycle when he was shot in the back by the suspect, Allan Malagueno, 43, on board a motorcycle using a caliber .45 pistol.

Abaigar died on the spot.

MalaguenoÂ¸ an Absence Without Official Leave (AWOL) soldier and a resident of Barangay Maulong, Catbalogan City, Samar, fled towards Catbalogan.

Calbiga lawmen alerted nearby police stations and the suspect was arrested in Barangay Bato, Paranas, Samar by the Paranas police and the 802nd Regional Mobile Force Battalion in a hot-pursuit operation.

Police recovered the murder weapon loaded with ammunition.

The suspect was taken to the Calbiga police station for documentation.

The incident was caught on closed-circuit television camera footage in the area.
