3 NPA charged for murdering village chair in Northern Samar

TACLOBAN CITY – Police on Wednesday, Oct. 5, filed murder and frustrated murder charges against three suspected New People's Army (NPA) for killing a barangay chairman and wounding his son in Pambujan, Northern Samar.

Col. Alfredo Tadefa, Northern Samar police chief, identified the suspects as Pedrin Julbetado, Emar Orpeza, and Saldy Bantillo.

Tadefa said the charges were based on the testimony of a witness who positively identified the suspects and the pieces of evidence gathered during the investigation.

"In the meantime, we will strengthen our intelligence monitoring on the accused before we launch manhunt operations once the warrants of arrest are issued by the court,” he added.

Tadefa appealed to the public to give the Northern Samar police any information leading to the arrest of the suspects.

The fatality, Yolando Gloton Jarito, 58, was shot several times by three unidentified gunmen in his residence in Barangay Cabab-toan on Oct. 1.

Yolando Jr., 27, sustained a bullet wound in the left thigh when he chased the fleeing suspects.

Police Regional Office-8 Director Brig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil condemned the shooting.

He sought the public's full support and cooperation with PRO-8 authorities in the campaign against crime in Eastern Visayas.
